Abstract:

Background: Chronic pain is one of the most current multi-dimensional problems which that’s management requires medical and psychological interventions. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of group-based acceptance and commitment therapy on pain-related anxiety, acceptance of pain d pain intensity in Patients with Chronic pain. Methods: with randomized clinical trial method 30patients met entry criteria were selected from medical centers affiliated with Isfahan Medical University, using purposive sampling and divided randomly into two groups. Research instruments were Chronic pain acceptance Questionnaire (CPAQ), Short Form of pain-Related Anxiety Symptoms Scale (PASS-20), pain Intensity Scale (PIS) and a demographic questionnaire. Experimental group were treated with acceptance and commitment therapy during the 8-session group 1.5 h. Follow up was two months after the last treatment session.Findings: acceptance and commitment therapy showed a reduction in pain related anxiety and pain intensity and increase of acceptance of pain (P<0.05).Conclusion: Findings indicates on effectiveness of this new behavioral therapy which is probably more appropriate for Iranian patients because of integrating behavioral therapy methods with eastern treatment techniques.

Aims and background: The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy and schema therapy on pain acceptance and self-efficacy pain in spinal column surgery patients who were referred to Milad hospital. Materials and methods: In this semi-experimental study with pre and post test control group design was used, 96 peopel who were qualified according to inclusive criteria have been chosen among the men whoeme undrewent spinal surgery by convenient method. Therfore 45 male subjects were chosen randomly and assigned to two experimental and control groups (each with 15peopel). First group recevied acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and second learned shema therapy and control group had no learning. This study was to analyze the data from the test ANCOVA. Findings: Result showed the efficacy of both acceptance and commitment therapy and schema therapy based on reducing amount pain and increase self-efficacy. Conclusions: The results revealed that schema therapy focuses on the challenge and cognition and acceptance and commitment therapy focuses on the process to creat positive and appropriate changes in patients whome underwnt surgical procedure.

Abstract:

Aim and Background: There is a relation between patients' levels of physical functioning and their acceptance of chronic pain. However, this relation has not been examined amongst Iranian chronic pain patients. The purpose of this paper was to evaluate the relation between acceptance of chronic pain and physical disability. Methods and Materials: In a descriptive-correlational study, convenience sampling was used to select 245 chronic pain patients from pain clinics in Tehran, Iran during spring and summer of 2010. The participants completed the Chronic pain acceptance Questionnaire (CPAQ) and a demographic questionnaire. They also provided information about physical disability, pain intensity, and daily dysfunction. Data was analyzed using Pearson's correlation and multiple hierarchical regression models.Findings: There were significant relations between acceptance of pain and pain intensity and disability (P<0.01). According to the regression model, acceptance of pain could predict a significant proportion of variance of disability scales (i.e. physical disability and daily dysfunction) (P<0.01). Therefore, it was a better predictor of disability compared to over pain intensity, gender, education, and pain duration. Conclusions: Chronic pain acceptance is an important factor in reducing the perceived disability in chronic pain patients. Therefore, acceptance-based treatment methods are helpful to decrease pain-related disability.

Abstract:

Background: Changing lifestyle can be effective in preventing pain and facilitates the process of chronic pain and its side effects. pain acceptance is an important and valuable concept related to the manner of a person, reaction, and compatibility with chronic pain. Objectives: The current study was conducted to determine lifestyle with chronic pain and pain acceptance in patients with stroke in Ilam city in 2018. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in 2018 on 200 patients, whowere hospitalized at Shaheed Mostafa Hospital of Ilam city due to stroke. According to the goals of the study, demographic specifications, the questionnaire of lifestyle with chronic pain, and the questionnaire of chronic pain acceptance were used. The obtained data of this study were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, and the table of frequency distribution) and inferential statistical tests (independent t and analysis of variance (ANOVA)). Results: According to the findings, the mean (SD) of pain acceptance was 16. 22 (1. 99) and that of lifestyle with chronic pain was 21. 83 (3. 91). Also, the maximum score in lifestyle with chronic pain and chronic pain acceptance was respectively 32 and 22. Also, there was no significant relationship between lifestyle and chronic pain and pain acceptance in elderly with stroke (P = 0. 22). Conclusions: According to the findings, mean (SD) scores of lifestyle with chronic pain and the rate of pain acceptance were not desired, therefore, nurses need to make improvements through nursing interventions.

Abstract:

Background: The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy on intensity pain and pain catastrophizing in women with chronic pain. Materials and methods: This study was semi-experimental with a pretest-posttest and follow-up with a control group design. The statistical population was made up of female patients with chronic pain referred to Emma Reza hospital in Tabriz city in 2023. In total, 30 people were selected by purposive sampling method, and randomly divided into two groups (15 people each). Members of the experimental group received their treatment in eight sessions of 1.5 hours; however, the control group did not receive any treatment. Both groups answered the 20-question sleep quality Pittsburgh McGill pain intensity and 29-question Sullivan et al pain catastrophic Questionnaires, before, after and 3 months after the intervention. Data were Analyzed using ANOVA with repeated measures. Results: The results showed that the acceptance and commitment therapy reduced the intensity pain and pain catastrophizing women with chronic pain in the post-test compared to the control group (P<0.001). The effect of acceptance and commitment therapy on intensity pain and pain catastrophizing was lasting in the follow-up phase (P<0.001). Conclusion: It seems that acceptance and commitment therapy can reduce the intensity pain and pain catastrophizing in women with chronic pain, therefore it is likely to be a useful treatment strategy to improve the intensity and pain catastrophizing in women with chronic pain
